“Glory to God, who is able to do far beyond all that we could ask or imagine by his power at work within us.” 2 EPHESIANS 3:20
Every year, I choose a word or phrase for the upcoming year. In celebration of 2023, the phrase I have to share with you all is, No Limits.
How does that feel when you hear the phrase' no limits? Does it fill you with hope and the thought of limitless possibilities? Does it make you want to push past the limiting beliefs that held you back in previous years? How does your mindset impact your beliefs?

What is a mindset?
Your mindset is your mental attitude toward things or your way of thinking. Our environment, education, experiences, traumas, culture, and family lineage develop and influence this. Mindset can form quickly by how you filter the world, and this can often lead to you being resistant to change. This way of thinking is how you perceive the world around you. You interrupt through your filter to develop beliefs and opinions. This is important because it also affects your journey, your development, and how you conduct yourself in the world.
“Life is far beyond meaning, life is beyond meaning, and that’s why it is so beautiful.”
You Either Possess a Growth Mindset or Fixed-Mindset

I want you to think about your natural talents and abilities, your intellect, and your personality traits. Do you believe there are fixed qualities, or do you believe you can cultivate and develop them throughout your life? People may believe their personality or what they can or cannot do is fixed.
Dr. Carol Dweck of Stanford University wrote a book on this subject. Through her extensive research, she believes people possess either a growth or a fixed mindset.
Dr. Dweck describes this in her book, The New Psychology of Success: How We Can Learn to Fulfill Our Potential.
“In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are 2 fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success – without effort. They’re wrong.”
“In a growth mindset, people believe their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication, hard work-brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience essential for great accomplishment. Virtually all great people have had these qualities.”
Think about where you are and where you want to be. Are there systems of belief that may be improved to reach your larger vision for your life?

Where Do I Start?
You may wonder how you map out such a personal quest for 2023. The place I recommend you begin is by having a larger vision for your life. This means taking an active look at your life in recent years. Where were the areas you felt held back by the status quo, your environment, or the expectations of others or those you place on yourself?
If you can bring awareness to these areas and accept them, you can commit to yourself that this year you will not only hold space for those areas you don’t feel successful in, but also do the work to push past these mental bars and create a bigger vision for your life than ever before.
Saying “Yes!”

When we go to default and say no to things, we actually have a visceral reaction where our bodies constrict. This does not feel good. Our fears motivate this, as what others will think, and all the limiting beliefs you filter through.
When we focus on saying yes, this happens when everything opens up for us. Our hearts open, our bodies open, and life registers that as a sign you are ready and available, the universe has a way to bring you more things you can say yes to.
When I took that leap and pushed past everything in my body, saying no, doors flowed openly. I co-authored a book and moved to another state within 60 days. Life has a way of flooding the moment you open the door to it.
Taking Authority Over Your Mindset

This can look like working with a life coach. A coach can support you with staying on track as you shift your mindset and work to achieve your goal. My coach helped me stay on track and push past behaviors that were self-sabotaging. Coaching led to me pursuing my passion and resulted in me becoming a certified coach and business owner.
Taking control of your mindset can also look like therapy. I view actively working on our mental health as a preventative measure for overall health and wellness. Having a good therapist you connect with can be a great resource to vent in a confidential space and a safe place to get you on the right track. I have found that having a therapist as a sounding board and as a preventative measure beneficial.
Working with negative and limited thinking can be pivotal in opening yourself up to everything from love to new opportunities. When we hold on to past events and pain, we become a prisoner of our past. We cannot move forward with better and knowing, because we only have space for the past. The past will hold you back. Focusing on the here and right now, is the place to always strive for. One method I love to keep me grounded in the present and moving forward is positive affirmations.
Have you ever heard the saying; you are what you think?
This translates to our negative thoughts, creating negative actions. By being aware of this, you can shift your negative thoughts to ones that are positive or perhaps even more neutral. Shifting our thoughts and focusing on positive affirmations can boost our self-confidence and create an optimistic view.
